Delays are likely on the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry through Thursday’s morning commute due to engine problems with the ferry “Pocahontas.”

The engine on the “Pocahontas” stalled Wednesday afternoon. Mechanics are trying to figure out the problem, and the Virginia Department of Transportation is working with the U.S. Coast Guard to return the boat to service, according to a VDOT news release.

The “Pocahontas” is the largest and newest of the four ships in the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry fleet. The ferry was built in 1995 and can hold up to 70 vehicles.

Real-time traffic information can be found on VDOT’s website here. Motorists can also call 511 or 361-3016 or tune to Highway Advisory Radio at 1680 AM.
