In honor of its late founder, the Williamsburg Pottery awarded scholarships to five local high school seniors.
The Maloney Foundation, named for Jimmy Maloney, was established in 2005 and annually gives scholarships to students from each of the three Williamsburg-James City County high schools — Jamestown, Lafayette and Warhill — and York County School Division’s Bruton High School.
The foundation’s board of directors picks up to two students from each school to receive $2,500 towards their college educations.
Students are chosen on the basis of academic merit, achievements, demonstrated character and financial need.
This year’s recipients are:
- Danyah A. Hassan: Warhill High School
- Jessica Leigh Holmes: Bruton High School
- Trudy Horsting: Bruton High School
- Erica Pence: Jamestown High School
- Precious Skinner: Jamestown High School
A private reception was held for these students and their families June 4 at the Williamsburg Pottery to celebrate their accomplishments.
Kim Maloney started Maloney Foundation in 2005 in her husband’s honor. The Williamsburg Pottery donates 1 percent of its sales to the community through the foundation.
