A 22-year-old Hampton man wanted in connection to two burglaries in the Historic Triangle and the death of a 3-year-old in Hampton was arrested in New York on Wednesday and will be extradited to Virginia.
Larry Coney Jr. is believed to have broken into the homes with 23-year-old Keisha Joidae Johnson of Newport News. Johnson was arrested April 21 in connection to the two incidents. A third person is believed to have been involved in one of the break-ins, however that person’s identity has not yet been released.
The first break-in occurred March 28 in the Port Anne subdivision off South Henry Street in Williamsburg. The break-in occurred between 9 and 11 a.m. that day. Drawers in the home were rifled through, and some checks and similar documents were stolen, according to Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department.
The second break-in occurred at about 12:50 p.m. April 21 in the Penniman East subdivision in Upper York County. In that break-in, electronics and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen from a home on the 100 block of Old Hollow Road.
Investigators from Williamsburg and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle believed to have been involved in the burglaries in Newport News on April 21.
Johnson was arrested a short time later. A search of the vehicle and a residence turned up several items taken from the houses. Johnson told investigators some of the stolen items were pawned, according to a YPSO wanted poster.
Coney is facing a homicide charge in Hampton after first responders went to a home on the 100 block of Wells Court in that city on May 18 for a report of a 3-year-old boy who was unconscious. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he was determined to have substantial internal injuries.
The boy, Ka’ron Burns, was pronounced dead at the hospital May 20. In addition to the homicide charge, Coney is also facing an aggravated malicious wounding charge.
The Hampton Police Department’s Public Information Office did not return calls for comment.
