Williamsburg Police, YPSO to Hold Anonymous Drug Disposal Drive

DEALaw enforcement in all three Historic Triangle municipalities will host an anonymous drug disposal drive Saturday.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in each municipality. The Williamsburg event will take place at the police department’s building on 425 Armistead Ave. The York County event will occur at the YPSO DARE office in the Washington Square Shopping Center. The James City County event is scheduled to take place at the James City County Recreation Center on Longhill Road.

The drives are all free and anonymous with no questions asked. Accepted for disposal will be expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs. Liquids, needles and sharps will not be accepted.

The event is held in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration as part of their National Take Back initiative. In the seven events held since the program started, more than 1,700 tons of pills have been collected by state and local law enforcement officers.

Medicines left in home cabinets are “highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse,” according to a YPSO news release.

In addition to the drug disposal event, Williamsburg police will host a document shredding drive at the same location during the four hours.
