A coyote authorities believe had been acting aggressively toward humans and cars last week in Williamsburg has been found dead on property owned by the College of William & Mary near Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Though a coyote’s body was found, officials continue to urge people to remain cautious and report any suspicious animals to the Williamsburg Police Department by calling 220-2331.
Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department said it is unknown what killed the coyote. Nobody was hurt by the animal. He said the coyote was reported to city officials by a citizen who said it had approached him.
The coyote was seen Thursday near Cedar Grove Cemetery and a few hours later on South England Street in the City of Williamsburg. The Williamsburg Police Department along with the William and Mary Police Department and Colonial Williamsburg Security ran extra patrols to try to locate the animal.
The body is being sent to Richmond to be tested for rabies and distemper.
Correction: the coyote’s body was found on property owned by the College of William and Mary where construction materials are stored. That location is not on campus.
