York County public libraries are hosting a Food for Fines amnesty program that began Friday and ends Nov. 16.
The program will allow patrons with overdue materials to bring nonperishable food items to the Tabb or Yorktown Library in lieu of paying their overdue fines.
One food item will pay one fine, regardless of that fine’s amount. Patrons may bring as many food items as they have overdue books, DVDs, cassettes or CDs.
The program does not apply to lost or damaged items.
Patrons should bring the items to the circulation desk along with their library cards to receive credit on their account. Previously opened and expired items will not be accepted. Donated items will go to local food closets.
