Federal Agents Search Lumber Liquidators Headquarters in Toano

Toano, VA 23168

A federal search warrant was executed Thursday at two Lumber Liquidators locations, including the company’s Toano headquarters.

Special agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s Homeland Security Investigations department, along with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, executed the warrant. The other location is a Lumber Liquidators property on West Broad Street in Henrico County, said Homeland Security Investigations spokesperson Brandon Montgomery.

The nature of the warrants is unclear. Montgomery said the warrants are sealed and he cannot say if they relate to an individual or to the entire company. The Office of the U.S. District Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia is also involved in the matter.

Attempts by WYDaily to reach Lumber Liquidators were unsuccessful. A statement was released to WTKR NewsChannel 3 by a firm representing the company, which stated “We are cooperating to provide information and documentation to answer the questions being asked relating to the importation of certain products.”

Homeland Security Investigations is tasked with investigating “a wide range of domestic and international activities arising from the illegal movement of people and goods into, within and out of the United States,” according to ICE’s website.

Lumber Liquidators started in Massachusetts in 1993. The company moved its headquarters from Boston to Colonial Heights in 1999. In 2004, Lumber Liquidators moved to its current location in Toano. The company now operates more than 200 stores across 46 states and employs more than 1,000 people.
