Volunteers from Anheuser-Busch, Inc.’s Williamsburg brewery will be at York River State Park on Saturday to help clean up the beach and water.
The Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup is a global effort, with hundreds of cleanup sites around the world. The Ocean Conservancy’s website bills the effort as the world’s largest volunteer effort for ocean and waterway cleanup, one of many water-related efforts the conservancy has taken on since its formation in 1972.
“Ocean trash ranks as one of the most serious pollution problems of our time,” said Betty Hallman, director of corporate relations for Ocean Conservancy, in a release. “Trash in the water and on the shore affects the health of people, wildlife and economies.”
For the cleanup, Landshark Lager — among other companies — serves as a sponsor. A release from Landshark says the Anheuser-Busch Williamsburg staff will be participating in the cleanup.
Any volunteers interested in attending and helping cleanup are welcomed. The cleanup will take place from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at York River State Park, 5526 Riverview Road in Williamsburg.
