Nobody was hurt when a 90-year-old woman drove her Kia Spectra into the entryway of the Citizens and Farmers Bank at the corner of Longhill and Old Towne roads on Friday afternoon.
Sgt. Brian Staton of the James City County Police Department said the woman was trying to park the car when she accidentally hit the gas pedal and drove into the entryway. He said traffic charges could arise from the incident, but none have been filed.
The incident occurred at 5:28 p.m., and the lobby of the bank was still open. The James City County Fire Department is on scene to check for any hazards at the building. The car demolished the front and side wall of the three-sided entryway, sending broken wood and shattered glass all over the car and the ground adjacent to the building.
Staton said there is no reason to believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. The bank will send someone to check the structural integrity of the building. A tow truck will remove the car from where it stopped.
