Belk stores are celebrating 125 years in business Wednesday, and the Williamsburg store is joining in the celebration with deals and giveaways.
Dignitaries from the City of Williamsburg and James City County will speak during a celebration ceremony from 9 to 10 a.m. along with speakers from the Belk store. A fife and drum corp will provide music during the celebration.
The store’s regular hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesdays, but the store will likely open around 9:45 a.m. to continue the celebration with the community. A cake and cupcakes will be available for shoppers and gift cards ranging in value from $5 to $1,000 will be given to the first 100 customers.
Sales will be going on throughout the store in honor of the anniversary.
National vendors such as Izod, Frye and KitchenAid had released special items in honor of Belk’s anniversary that will only be available in Belk stores. There is also a Belk 125th anniversary Barbie.
The Belk store in Williamsburg has been open since 2005. Belk stores were founded by William Henry Belk, who opened the first store in Monroe, N.C., in 1888.
