Renovations at Mid County Park are expected to continue through mid-July, as rain and necessary soil modifications have prevented the work from finishing by its scheduled completion date of Memorial Day.

Discussion began on the project in January 2011 and was projected to cost about $1.5 million. The project was split between two contractors, with David A. Nice Builders Inc. winning the bid for the park project and Cunningham Recreation winning the bid for the Kidsburg project.

The renovations began Jan. 22.

Cunningham Recreation will construct a new Kidsburg playground. Footings for the playground need to be installed and soil modifications need to be made to allow proper drainage, which has been delayed due to rain.

David A. Nice is completing the park project, which includes a new office and restroom facilities and new matching roofs for picnic pavilions  This project is on track to complete next week.

The basketball, tennis and volleyball courts and the walking trail will remain open during daylight with parking available in the back lot.

The 1994 community-built Kidsburg did not meet ADA guidelines or standards for public-use playgrounds. The new playground will be ADA and safety compliant.
