York Woman Accused of Leaving Baby in Woods to Go to Trial Today

A York County woman who allegedly left her infant daughter in the woods in the Dandy neighborhood will go to trial today at 10:30 a.m. in York-Poquoson Circuit Court.

The case stems from a September incident when 18-year-old Viktoria Williams allegedly left her infant daughter, wrapped only in a towel, in the woods. The infant was estimated by doctors to be 3 days to a week old when the incident occurred. A citizen walking on Middle Road on Sept. 22 heard cries from the swampy woods and investigated, finding the infant.

That citizen called authorities, who took the infant to the hospital. Williams was arrested that night and charged with felony child neglect.

Williams appeared before the York Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in January, when she waived her right to a preliminary hearing. The case then went to a grand jury, who decided to indict Williams.
