Busch Gardens and Water Country USA have stopped using plastic bags in all park gift shops and are now offering recycled paper bags.
Discontinuing the plastic bags is part of a sustainability initiative within the group of Seaworld Parks and Entertainment’s theme parks.
SeaWorld began the transition to paper in 2011 when SeaWorld San Diego stopped using plastic bags. In 2012, SeaWorld Orland stopped as well. By this year, the company expects all 11 parks to be paper-only.
The change at Busch Gardens and Water Country USA occurred on April 19 and will go into effect May 18, when the park opens for the season.
Doing away with plastic bags across all 11 parks is estimated to keep four million plastic bags out of landfills and the environment each year.
