City Council to Talk Budget at Work Session

City Council will have its last scheduled budget work session Monday before the likely adoption of the fiscal year 2014 budget May 9.

The session will include a summary of the revisions to the budget thus far and an adjustment to the capital improvement plan.

The meeting will take place in the third floor conference room of the Municipal Building at 401 Lafayette St.

On April 1, City Manager Jack Tuttle released his proposed $51.6 million budget, where he noted property tax revenue is expected to increase by 2.8 percent and government revenue should be up 10.5 percent. The city’s biggest spending increase will be its contribution of $8.4 million to the Williamsburg-James City County Schools – an 8.1 percent increase in school costs over the past two years.
