Revolutionary Idea: CW and NASCAR Team Up

Two distinctly American bits of culture – the history around the nation’s Revolution and the affection for wheels that go round and round really fast – are getting together.

Colonial Williamsburg on Monday announced a partnership with Richmond International Raceway, inviting NASCAR fans to head south of the track to extend their visits.

According to a news release, longtime NASCAR fan and Colonial Williamsburg trustee Forrest Mars inspired the partnership with his passion for racing and for the Revolutionary City. The Mars family’s generosity has led to the recent reconstruction of the James Anderson Armoury and Tin Shop, along with R. Charlton’s Coffeehouse; those projects totaled a $10 million gift from the Mars family. Colonial Williamsburg will be unveiling further details of the partnership in the upcoming months, the news release said.

“Colonial Williamsburg’s partnership with Richmond International Raceway is a natural for Virginia tourism,” Director of Consumer Strategy and Sales for Colonial Williamsburg Skip Ferebee said. “NASCAR is a truly American sport, and Colonial Williamsburg is a center for American history and citizenship – an all-American destination for families who want to have fun and learn some history along the way.”

CW is reaching out to NASCAR fans during the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races held in Richmond in April and September.

Fans can of both the Revolutionary City and NASCAR can follow the conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #CWLovesNASCAR.
