WILLIAMSBURG— The family of Noah Cheeseman, the 15-year-old who was killed Sunday evening in a shooting at Lafayette Square Apartments, has started a GoFundMe page for the young man’s funeral expenses.
According to his family, Cheeseman played football at Warhill High School and was academically gifted. He was also a member of the congregation at World Outreach Worship Center in Newport News.
Brittnie Williams, Cheeseman’s mother, created a GoFundMe with the hope that the public can help give Noah the sendoff that he deserves.
“His passing was completely unexpected. He was caught in a crossfire that had nothing to do with him, and sadly, he was the only one killed. Our family is devastated by this senseless loss, and we are determined to seek justice for him so he can leave this earth in peace. At the same time, we are facing many expenses to give him the meaningful ceremony he deserves. We need help covering the costs for the casket at the viewing, the ceremony itself, the repass area, food for the ceremony, a photo collage, shirts for family members, and flowers. These are all important ways for us to come together, remember him, and celebrate his life,” Williams said.
The family is asking for $6,000 in total. As of this writing, the family has raised $4,258.
Williams also expressed her thanks to the community.
“Any support you can give would mean the world to our family during this difficult time. Your kindness will help us honor his memory, seek justice, and give him the farewell he deserves. Thank you for being there for us and for helping us through this loss,” she added.
No date for the viewing or the funeral have been announced at this time.
