A man arrested in 2011 for alleged sex crimes involving a female juvenile over the course of several years pleaded guilty last night in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court to a reduced charge.
The plea was part of an agreement that reduced the 20 charges 53-year-old David Wayne Mixon faced to a single count of child sodomy.
Mixon entered an Alford plea, which is where a defendant pleads guilty in court but does not admit to actual guilt. The plea is an admission by Mixon that sufficient evidence exists to find him guilty.
Among the charges Mixon had faced are forcible sodomy, sexual battery, object sexual penetration and taking indecent liberties with a child.
The plea came in a last-minute hearing before Judge Michael McGinty. A jury trial had been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today.
He will be sentenced 9 a.m. May 24.
