A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at knifepoint at a James City County campground in September appeared in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges stemming from that incident.

Police said 41-year-old Ronald Dezego, Jr., entered the camper of the 29-year-old victim at the Carter’s Grove Campground on Pocahontas Trail Sept. 5 and raped her at knifepoint. The victim’s boyfriend and another man returned to the camper and rushed in when they heard the victim screaming for help.

The men then fought with Dezego before he escaped and ran into the woods. He was arrested a few hours later when he returned to the campground, where he was living. He did not know the victim, said Major Steven Rubino of the James City County Police Department.

Dezego has been charged with a number of charges related to the incident, including rape, forcible sodomy, abduction and malicious wounding. He will have a jury trial at 8:30 a.m. June 10 in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court.
