Zinga! Frozen Yogurt in Monticello Marketplace in James City County has closed, said owner Frank Islin.
“We never felt like we had a foothold,” Islin said. “We had a lot of positive customer feedback, but business never picked up.”
Islin said he thought Monticello Marketplace was a good shopping center and that the people in the area are outstanding, but the business just wasn’t there. Zinga! Frozen Yogurt opened in spring 2012.
“We hear business isn’t booming at other frozen yogurt places,” Islin said, “but maybe we tried to cut the business too many ways.”
Baskin Robbins, Haagen-Dazs, Yogurtini and Berrybody in the city of Williamsburg and Coldstone Creamery, Honey Bee, Sweet Frog and Ben & Jerry’s in James City County all sell frozen yogurt.
Islin said the proximity of Monticello Marketplace to residential neighborhoods, swimming pools and schools was appealing when he was looking at where to put the store.
There were 10 people employed by the Zinga! Frozen Yogurt at Monticello Marketplace. The business’ last day was Dec. 23.
