Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation have completed work on the Route 17 James River Bridge for this weekend, which means all lanes have reopened to traffic.
The James River Bridge had been down to one lane in either direction starting Friday evening so crews could remove barrier walls in preparation for the upcoming grid deck repair project. The lane closures were expected to last until 5 a.m. Monday, but crews completed their work at 1 a.m. today.
Grid deck replacement work will resume this Friday, Oct. 5, at 9 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 8, at 5 a.m. According to VDOT, at least seven additional weekend lane closures will be required to complete the bridge work, weather permitting. The schedule for these additional closures has not been determined. Click here to stay up to date on the $3.8 million James River Bridge project.
The I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel will be open during the weekends when JRB is under construction.
