Three candidates for the 2026 city council race

Three candidates have entered the 2026 Williamsburg City Council race ahead of Tuesday’s filing deadline.

WILLIAMSBURG – Three candidates have filed to run for Williamsburg City Council ahead of the 7 p.m. June 16 filing deadline.

The candidates are Stacy Kern-Scheerer, a current City Council member seeking reelection; Carolyn Murphy, a longtime Williamsburg Planning Department employee; and Eino Korpela.

Kern-Scheerer, who was sworn in following the 2023 election, is an attorney and former William & Mary law professor.

Murphy has worked in the city’s Planning Department for 30 years and is a founding member of the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials. She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Korpela earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from William & Mary. He was born in Finland and lived most of his life in New Jersey before moving to the area.

Early voting begins in the city June 18.
