SEAFORD— At approximately 7 p.m. yesterday, the York County Fire Department (YCFD) was dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the 200 block of Oak Point Lane in the Seaford area. Upon arrival, crews found the home fully involved in fire.
The Fire Department said that Firefighters from four of its stations responded and encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the structure. Due to the extent of the fire, crews initiated an aggressive defensive operation to bring the fire under control.
Given the home’s proximity to Wormley Creek, YCFD requested assistance from Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s fire boat.
Utilities to the home were secured by Virginia Natural Gas and Dominion Energy
to eliminate additional hazards.
The fire was brought under control with no active fire reported at approximately
10 p.m. Firefighters remained on scene to conduct overhaul operations,
ensuring the fire did not reignite, and utilized the department’s drone to search for
hot spots.
YCFD said the resident of the home evacuated prior to the arrival of first responders. They
were evaluated at the scene and subsequently transported to a local medical center
for further assessment. Assistance is being provided by the Red Cross.
No additional injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under
investigation.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue and
the Williamsburg Fire Department. Fire station backfill coverage was provided by Newport News Fire Department, Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue, and the Naval Weapons Station Fire Department.
