Two 18-year-olds from Charles City were arrested after deputies say a social media sale turned into an armed robbery at a Wawa in James City County.
According to the James City County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:25 p.m. July 22 to the Wawa at 6446 Richmond Road for a report of an armed robbery.
Deputies said the victim told investigators he had arranged to purchase tennis shoes from one of the suspects through social media. When the victim produced cash to complete the sale in convenience store parking lot, the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at him, took the money and fled.
The victim provided a description of the vehicle and the two people inside, including a female driver and a male passenger who allegedly displayed the firearm.
Surveillance video from the Wawa confirmed the robbery, and deputies used the vehicle’s license plate to locate it a short distance away, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Both occupants were arrested.
Antoine Maurice Grant Jr., 18, and Madison Sagay Brady, 18, both of Charles City, were charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both remain in custody at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
