Lacroy “Atlas” Nixon is the first-ever poet laureate of Williamsburg, and he visited the 92.3 FM The Tide studio to speak about his role and preview the local arts scene in 2026. He shared how he became the poet laureate for the city, and how in his role he helps support the local arts scene and foster a sense of community. He also spoke about Slam Connection, a local organization he founded that pushes self expression, healthy discourse and youth empowerment through the medium of spoken word and slam poetry. The organization hosts open mic nights the first Friday of every month, monthly workshops at the Williamsburg Regional Library, and slam poetry competitions and qualifiers, including the Historic Triangle Grand Slam at the Kimball Theater on Feb. 28.
