JAMES CITY COUNTY — Michael Hipple announced that he will not seek re-election to the James City County (JCC) Board of Supervisors (BOS).
During the February board business meeting Hipple, who is the current Powhatan District Supervisor, noted his term will end Dec. 31.
“I have been so privileged to be on the Board and it has been one of my biggest accomplishments — other than the fire department and running with all the men and women involved in that. I’ve thought about this hard and I am to the point in my life where I want to spend more time with my wife and children,” stated Hipple.
Reflecting on the many roles he has had in the community Hipple said, “It’s amazing how 40 years of service to the community goes by so quickly.”
Making the announcement early in the year will allow other community members the opportunity and time to consider running for the board seat, Hipple explained.
He continued, “I have had a great run here in the county but, I just want to do some other things. You come to a point where you go, ‘ok, it’s time for another person to come in and grab it and take it forward.'”
“I will be seeing out my term and you will not get a minute of rest or peace while I am sitting up here on the seat,” exclaimed Hipple with a laugh.
Members of the board thanked Hipple for his service and talked about how it has worked together for many years.
“Board Chair Jim Icenhour, Jamestown District, summed up the announcement by saying, “Thank you for your service to the community, sir. I am sure it is a difficult decision to make.”
