WILLIAMSBURG — Local for-profit, Thread Local 360 partnered with local nonprofit Thread Local Charities to help them open their first storefront at Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center in late December.
Thread Local 360 wants customers to re-evaluate how they shop for clothing through its mission to “elevate the secondhand shopping experience and change how consumers shop for clothes” because they believe the current state of fashion is unsustainable and wasteful.
The new storefront combines thrift shopping, consignment, and donation drop-off into one space for ease and convenience. The shop will also offer locally made and sourced apparel and accessories made by budding, local artists.
Thread Local Charities (TLC) was born out of a need from Tiffany Beardsley’s Thread Local 360 company, when she learned the majority of all donated clothing in the United States goes into the trash.
“I wanted to make it easy for people to donate items. I researched to find who could locally accept clothes and not throw them away,” explained Beardsley. “I couldn’t find anywhere that could handle the bulk. So, I created the nonprofit (Thread Local Charities) that allows people to donate clothing and get a tax-deductible receipt.”

Everything that is donated will fulfill a need.
“Once it is in our (TLC’s) hands, we sort and distribute it based on our community partners’ needs and whatever is left, we will sell here in our thrift store,” she stated.
If an item is unusable, TLC recycles it through several sources.
Thread Local 360 customers can also benefit from a membership tier where customers can receive in-store credit in exchange for any new or like-new items. That credit generates points that are then used as currency to be used back in her clothing exchange, Thread Local 360.
Customers are also invited to drop off clothing donations during open hours without participating in the membership exchange program offered by Thread Local 360.
Thread Local 360 is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and plans to host an official grand opening in February.
