NEWPORT NEWS — Dominion Energy crews from the Peninsula area recently volunteered to install a fence inside the petting zoo at the Peninsula SPCA, along with additional work to the petting zoo area.
The nonprofit organization needed a space to feed and tend to animals while the public interacts with them at the barnyard and petting zoo. The new fence will allow guests more time to enjoy the animals and more flexibility for SPCA staff to care for them.
Terri MacIntyre, a Projects and Compliance Coordinator for Hampton, Williamsburg, and Portsmouth offices of Dominion Energy, serves on the Board of Directors for the Peninsula SPCA and helped organize the project.
“Community service is important to me, and I am glad Dominion Energy supports it, too,” said MacIntyre. “I’m passionate about helping animals and grateful for my coworkers who gave their time and energy to help with this special project.”
Dominion Energy staff and field personnel teamed up to finish the project in one day.
This is the company’s third volunteer project with the Peninsula SPCA.
Peninsula SPCA also received a grant of $2,500 for the project.
Partnering with nonprofits is part of Dominion Energy’s commitment to support communities, it noted.
