VPCC Hosting Hiring Fair for Adjuncts Sept. 28
Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) is holding an Adjunct Hiring Fair at the Hampton Campus on Sept. 28 at its Hampton IV building located at 521 Butler Farm Road. The event will be from 4-7 p.m. in Room 4136.
Those interested should bring copies of their unofficial transcripts and their resumes.
Prospective adjunct instructors will have the opportunity to speak with department heads and deans to learn more about teaching at VPCC.
They also will be able to complete the online adjunct application so they can be considered for courses in the spring semester.
Riverside Health System to Host Free Prostate Cancer Screenings
September is prostate cancer awareness month and Riverside Health System is hosting four free prostate cancer screenings around Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore.
Prostate screenings for men remain incredibly important for catching and treating prostate cancer early, when it is the most curable, Riverside said.
Free screenings are by appointment only. Participants may call 1-800-520-7006 to register for their appointment.
The free screenings will be held on the following dates and locations:
- Sept. 8, from 1-4 p.m. at Riverside Urology Specialists Williamsburg
- Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon at Riverside Cancer Care Center in Newport News
- Sept. 18, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Riverside Urology Specialists Eastern Shore
- Sept. 25, from 1-4 p.m. at Riverside Urology Specialists Gloucester

JCCPD Applies for FY23 Justice Assistance Grant
James City County Police Department is seeking funding for enhancing law enforcement programs through the FY23 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program: Local Solicitation in the amount of $12,236, it said.
The Police Department plans to use the funds to expand its BolaWrap initiative, enhancing civilian and officer safety and promoting de-escalation in critical situations. As part of this recently created initiative, the Department aims to purchase eight BolaWrap devices and ensure officers are adequately trained in their proper use prior to deployment.

Join Batman and friends at Tabb Library
All superheroes and superheroes in training are invited to join Batman and his friends on “Batman Day” at Tabb Library from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16.
According to York County, Participants will have the opportunity to train to become a superhero or refine their powers in “Superhero Boot Camp,” and families are invited to test their luck in our “Superhero BINGO” from 10:30–11:30 a.m.
There will be crafts for kids as well as a large selection of superhero books and DVDs for checkout with a library card. Costumes of any superhero are encouraged but not required.
