This week, meet Lisa Youngers.
What is your job title and description?
Owner and founder Downsize Simply, LLC.
I offer judgment-free guidance and motivation to help people to take charge and tackle the overwhelm by identifying manageable steps and teaching skills to maintain. Also, I love to hear stories about treasured belongings.
Who do you interact/work with on a regular basis?
Mostly my clients, busy professionals to retirees and their adult children.
How do you/your organization interact with the local community?
It takes a village! I collaborate with an amazing network of passionate people dedicated to helping seniors; social services, realtors, senior communities, Peninsula Task Force on Aging, funeral homes and more. Always on the lookout for more resources, to help them manage their belongings or find new homes. I never know what the next request will be, once I had to find a new home for a race car!
What is something about your job most people wouldn’t know about?
Downsizing isn’t just getting rid of stuff. It’s making room for what truly matters.
How do you define success?
When I solve a problem. What to do with savings bonds in the name of the deceased? What to do with decades of income tax returns? What to do with Grandma’s china. Downsizing from 2,000 square feet to 800 square feet. I love the challenge and satisfaction that comes from guiding someone through an often overwhelming experience.
What is your most successful accomplishment to date?
Concerned I was there to haul away all her stuff, one woman was very guarded with me and reluctant to part with anything. Slowly but over time I gained her trust and together created a safe and functional home.
How long have you lived in the Historic Triangle?
35 years
What is your favorite part of living here?
Great parks and outdoor recreation.
What do you do for downtime/to relax?
Spending time with my family. Never-ending home and garden projects.
