Former ODU employee pleads guilty to downloading child pornography

VIRGINIA BEACH — A Virginia Beach man who once worked in Old Dominion University’s science department could spend up to 20 years in prison for downloading child pornography off of the internet.

An undercover FBI agent downloaded child pornography being distributed from an IP address that belonged to 33-year-old Christopher J. West in 2016. An investigation led the FBI to his Virginia Beach apartment where they found multiple videos of child pornography on his electronics in April, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

West admitted that he used a file-sharing program online to download the pornographic images and pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography. He could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison on Feb. 21, 2018.
