Community Action Agency Asks for Food Donations for Christmas Baskets

W-JCC Community Action AgencyThe Williamsburg-James City County Community Action Agency is putting out the call for cash and food donations for its annual Christmas Food program.

The program, which is in its 38th year, serves individuals and families in the community in need of a holiday meal. The Community Action Agency anticipates receiving more than 600 applications for its Christmas Baskets this year, and it is asking for the community’s help in filling those baskets.

Suggested food donations include turkey, ham, cake mix, cans of frosting, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, canned yams, string beans, cranberry sauce, green beans, canned corn and sweet potatoes.

Donated foodstuffs can be dropped off at the Community Action Agency building at 312 Waller Mill Road, Suite 405, and cash donations to help the agency purchase additional food can be mailed by Dec. 4 to the same address.

Volunteers are also needed to help put the baskets together, and can sign up by contacting Linda Wallace-Cody or Yvonne Joseph at 757-229-9332.

All baskets will be distributed Dec. 16 at the Messmer Community Service Building.
