April 23rd is Give Local 757, the biggest giving day of the year for Hampton Roads, and The Heritage Humane Society invites the local community to join the revelry by making a paws-itive difference in the lives of Greater Williamsburg’s largest homeless pet population. Every donation stays 100% local and helps right here in the community.
What is Give Local 757?
Give Local 757 is an annual event in the Hampton Roads area where individuals and organizations come together to support local nonprofits such as The Heritage Humane Society through online giving. This year, the day of giving begins at 12 a.m. midnight on Tues., Apr. 23, 2024, and concludes at 11:59 p.m. that day. Those wishing to give can click on The Heritage Humane Society page on Give Local 757.
The Heritage Humane Society is one of the qualifying organizations that can receive donations through Give Local 757. Only organizations that are verified 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits that are either headquartered or provide services in Hampton Roads can participate.
Donations with double the impact
For 2024, thanks to a generous gift match challenge of $15,000, every dollar donated to The Heritage Humane Society through Give Local 757 on Apr. 23 will be matched. This doubling of donations will increase the impact needed as the shelter faces caring for one of its largest pet populations since before the pandemic. Since 2018, the number of dogs in the care of the shelter so far in 2024 has increased 105%.
What does the impact look like?
Operating the shelter costs more than $3,000 every single day. One of the biggest questions people are most curious about is how their donations make an impact. The Heritage Humane Society loves to share that their goodwill and kindness make a difference in these ways:
- $25 – One set of vaccines for a pet upon arrival to the shelter
- $50 – 10 enrichment activities for all pets for one day
- $100 – Spay or neuter for one pet before adoption
- $250 – Sponsor food for most shelter pets for three days
- $350 – Cover the cost for one pet with urgent medical needs to receive diagnostic and evaluation
- $500 – Care for the cost of one pet from intake (surrender, stray) to adoption
Adoptable pets ready for a forever home
The shelter is filled with homeless pets who are eager to have forever home. More than 150 dogs, cats and small pets are currently in their care. Adoptable pets are available to meet during The Heritage Humane Society’s visiting and adopting hours from 12 to 4:30 p.m., Tues. through Sun.
