During these sweltering, humid dog days of summer, let’s take a moment to think ahead to cooler temperatures, rolling fairways, smooth greens, and…wagging tails! The Heritage Humane Society is inviting area golfers and animal lovers to Make Par for Pets Golf Classic.
Presented by Chesapeake Bank, the shelter’s largest outdoor fundraiser of the year is being held on the championship courses of Kingsmill Resort. Featured in Sports Illustrated, GOLF, Golf Digest, and more, Make Par for Pets players will take on the same award-winning golf courses that PGA and LPGA players treasured among tour stops.
Tee it up
This popular event is a crowd pleaser for Greater Williamsburg drawing on leaders across the community join in for a day of competition, camaraderie, and charity.
The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. It is Captain’s Choice (Scramble) and there will be contest holes. The large tournament will be played on the River Course and the Plantation Course. For a fun twist, after registration is closed, course selections will be made for each participating team by the pups of the Heritage Humane Society.
Players can stay full and hydrated enjoying a continental breakfast provided by Aromas, buffet lunch, ice cold beer sponsored by Noah’s Ark Veterinary Hospital and dessert sponsored by Edward Jones – Financial Advisor: Antonija Simpson.
“At Chesapeake Bank, ‘It’s all about Community’ is not just a tag line or slogan. It’s who we are. And we are very proud of our long history of supporting the Heritage Humane Society, which is a vital part of our community,” shares Tucker Edmunds, Mortgage Loan Officer, VP, of Presenting Sponsor, Chesapeake Bank. “We hope you will all come out to Make Par for Pets to support this amazing organization.”
New for this year, people are invited to purchase raffle tickets online before the tournament. Raffle sales will open in August and the winners will be drawn on tournament day during the lunch awards ceremony. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win.
Guaranteed Ace
The Heritage Humane Society is guaranteeing every player will earn an “ace” knowing their efforts are going directly to support the homeless pets at the Heritage Humane Society. Every year, an average of 1,500 homeless animals are cared for within the shelter with another 1,200 area pets cared for through its Kibble Kitchen & Beyond, a community outreach program that keeps pets with their families.
Make Par for Pets Golf Classic is organized by the Heritage Humane Society Auxiliary, or HHS Auxiliary. There are currently 60 HHS Auxiliary members and new members are welcome. They meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:15 a.m. in the Heritage Humane Society classroom.
“Kingsmill Resort is honored to partner with the Heritage Humane Society and the Make Par for Pets Golf Classic. The Community service provided by Heritage Humane Society for not just the pets in need, but for local families is second to none,” says Robert Dudeck, the Kingsmill Tournament Golf Sales Manager. “The entire staff at Kingsmill Resort looks forward to working with the HHS Auxiliary volunteers to create a better environment for those pets.”

“Make Par for Pets Golf Classic is one of my favorite fundraising events of the year since it brings together so many of our community and business partners for a day that is just plain fun! What’s not to love about spending time out of the office raising money for a charity that is loved by so many. Between the delicious food, drinks, incredible atmosphere on the James River, beautiful golf course. We have more than 200 golfers registered so far, and I hope we sell out both courses,” shares Kimberly Laska, Executive Director of the Heritage Humane Society.
