WILLIAMSBURG — As part of our countdown to 2025, WYDaily is revisiting its most-read and favorite stories of the year.

Coming in at No. 5, the announcement by York County that Virginia Beer Company (VBC) signed a lease to take over a nearly completed building on Route 17 originally intended as a Beale’s brewpub with developer Waukeshaw, the Beale brand’s parent company.

That VBC team hopes to open in 2025. Unlike its Edge District location, the new site will offer its first chance to create a dining menu that will “celebrate the area.”

Beale’s owners had to pull away from the project in the spring due to unforeseen family health concerns. The project had been announced in 2019 on a piece of vacant, county-owned land located at 7120 George Washington Memorial Highway.
