WILLIAMSBURG — At the January 11 meeting of the City of Williamsburg’s Economic Development Authority Business Roundtable, SCORE Williamsburg Chapter Chair Dean Risseeuw presented information about the organization’s business mentorship program.
“Classically, SCORE is the ‘Service Corps of Retired Executives.’ Although you don’t have to be an executive or retired in order to join the SCORE,” said Risseeuw in the online business roundtable meeting.
The program is for community members and local entrepreneurs that are seeking free and confidential advice about starting or expanding their small businesses.
The local Williamsburg chapter has been offering assistance to new, struggling, and growing businesses through the Historic Triangle and the Hampton Roads Peninsula-area since 1985, with SCORE itself founded fifty years ago.
The Williamsburg chapter boasts 22 mentors for the program. The organization sometimes teams up with other providers to help teach modern business and organizational skills. One example shown during the online presentation was that Google helped small business owners learn about Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
The Williamsburg Chapter offers free workshops at the Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL). The next workshop is called, “How To Start and Manage Your Business” and is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2020. More information can be found on the WRL website.
More information on the local SCORE chapter can be found online at the SCORE’s website.
The next virtual business round table meeting will feature the Director of Athletics at the College of William & Mary Brian Mann and will be held Feb. 8, 2022, at 12:00 p.m A full list of upcoming business roundtable meetings can be found on the business roundtable webpage.
