WILLIAMSBURG — Two sisters, Erin Hogge and Caitlin King, will help run their family’s business after accepting key leadership positions at Williamsburg-based construction firm, J.S.G Corporation.

Hogge will serve as vice president and secretary of J.S.G. while King will be taking on the role as president of the company.

“From a very young age, our parents instilled in us the importance of giving back, and that’s what we want to keep doing in this community,” King said.  “We’re excited to continue working in our community and growing this business within our generation and pass it on to further generations.”

Their new positions within the company make them the third generation to lead J.S.G. The company was founded in 1947 by King and Hogge’s grandfather, Jack L. Massie.

Massie started the business as a grading company in Newport News. In 1964, company eventually moved to James City County, where it has been since. In 1987, J.S.G. began operating a mineral mine, and, in 2011, the company added civil construction to the services offered. In 2005, Jack L. Massie passed away and, a year later, James City County and the Virginia Department of Transportation named the College Creek Bridge on Virginia Route 199 after him.

The company has continued to expand into the construction business in recent years.

J.S.G performs road, site, and utility work for commercial, government, and industrial clients. The company operates a 200-acre mine within the Williamsburg area off of Centreville Road. They also sell topsoil, recycled concrete, asphalt, and compost.

Hogge and King’s father Gary Massie will stay involved with the company working as manager while their mother Linda will continue as vice president/treasurer of the company.

The move for the sister duo to run the company means that J.S.G is among the 13% of construction-related companies that are owned and operated by women across the country.
