It’s a question that’s sprung up multiple times on Williamsburg-area social media groups: What’s the new building behind Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen?
Here’s the answer: The building is a vacant, three-store retail space that will be owned and leased out by Popeyes.
The 4,500-square-foot retail space was proposed with the application for Popeyes, said Erin Burke, principal planner for the City of Williamsburg.
The Popeyes, located in front of Aldi on Richmond Road, was approved April 19.
Burke said potential tenants for the building have not yet been announced. Because the site plan has already been approved, prospective tenants will not need to go through a city approval process unless they choose to change the exterior of the building.
The building is just retail, and does not include plans for a drive-thru, Burke said.
