Just eight months after it opened its doors, A Southern Gardener in Norge has closed unexpectedly.

Business owner Lisa Diane Bux died in her home Dec. 2, the business said in a news release Monday. She was 61.

A Southern Gardener opened its doors April 6, selling hundreds of items for tending to and decorating lawns and gardens.

Opened in April of this year, it was expected to serve Williamsburg for many years,” according to the news release.

Now the shop, at 7417 Richmond Road, will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 31, with the exception of Christmas.

All items will be on sale starting Monday, according to the news release. Sales will range from 10 to 75 percent off.

The Norge store was the first storefront for A Southern Gardener.

A lifelong gardener, Bux moved from Pennsylvania and started her own gardening business from her home in Barhamsville 10 years ago, said Kerry Johnson, a business spokeswoman.

In April, Bux told WYDaily she hoped to inspire a passion for gardening in those who stop in her shop. She also offered classes to help customers learn how to care for their lawns, and provided lawn care services including mowing, mulching, leaf cleanup, creative garden design, tree work, maintenance programs and underground watering systems.

Lisa had a passion and vision for gardens and was never happier than when putting her designs on paper and overseeing a project to fruition,” the news release said Monday. “Many clients in the Williamsburg area benefited from her expertise, as did her previous clients in the New Hope, Pa. area.”

Bux is also remembered for her love of animals, including her horses, cats and dogs, some of which were rescued from the New Kent Humane Society.

Only cash or check will be accepted at A Southern Gardener during the final sale.
