VIRGINIA BEACH — With all due respect to hamburgers, hot dogs, and apple pie, the new All-American food just might be tacos.

Pretty much everybody loves tacos.

Nearly 6 years ago Jacob Harver started a food truck, Bro’s Fish Tacos, and now — after years of hard work driving from location to location and event to event — he and his wife Elyse are opening a physical location where they can sell their tacos without having to rely completely on a four-wheeled kitchen.

“We’ve been one of the more successful trucks in the area I’d say, and we’ve made enough of a name and built enough of a following to open a spot,” Harver said Thursday evening, standing outside of the new location. “A lot of people don’t seek out the (food) trucks, but they’ve heard about us and they want to give us a try.”

Bro’s has rented a space in the North Lynnhaven Shoppes (Suite 116), at 277 N. Lynnhaven Road.

Although the street isn’t a long one, it’s certainly busy – with traffic from Lynnhaven Parkway and Interstate 264 feeding into and out of the Kings Grant neighborhood on the other side of Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Harver said he hopes to be open in the next week or so, with a soft opening likely as he and the staff get accustomed to the new way of preparing and serving food.

Once open, Bro’s will offer lunch and dinner, opening at 11 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and then staying open until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Sundays will also feature the NFL Sunday Ticket and pro football on the restaurant’s televisions.

As far as the menu, Harver said initially it’ll be similar to their food truck offerings, with a few added items, and expand and diversify a bit over time.

“We need to get in and get our bearings,” Harver said. “Besides, people want to try what we have now, so that’s another reason to keep it the same.”

Eventually, he said they’ll probably add things like pork tacos, burritos, nachos, and even Mexican street corn, as well as a catch-of-the-day.

“There aren’t a lot of places around here that do just tacos,” Harver said. “There are some restaurants that offer good ones, but not a place that serves strictly tacos.”

Bro’s will also sell beer, with a bar featuring 6-8 taps from which local craft beers will flow. There’ll also be a cooler with reserves and special orders, as well as seasonal offerings in cans and bottles.

When weather permits there are two large garage doors that can go up and bring the outside in.

“It’s a crazy, scary, exciting thing,” he said, adding the food truck will continue to be on the road, but probably being a little more choosy about the events they attend.
