The owner of the Master Craftsmen Shop has announced the shop is closing for good.

The Master Craftsmen Shop, which has operated near Merchants Square on North Boundary Street since 1982, will close its doors as owner and operator Holly Shields retires, according to a press release.

Master Craftsmen Shop offers locally-made handcrafted jewelry, collectibles, ornaments and gifts.

“It has been my great privilege to assist so many wonderful customers from Williamsburg, the Virginia Peninsula, and across the United States,” Shields said in the release. “I will miss working with our loyal customers, many who have become my friends through our shared interest of beautiful handcrafted jewelry, gifts, and collectibles.”

Shields added the decision to retire and close the shop was not made easily–but it is a decision she said she wants to celebrate with her friends and customers.

Shields announced a Master Craftsmen Shop going-out-of-business sale would begin Thursday, Nov. 2. The sale will also celebrate the store’s 35th anniversary and will feature “aggressive discounts” on jewelry, gifts, collectibles and other items.

Master Craftsmen Shop is located at 221 North Boundary Street.

Shields said the store will not be closing immediately.

For Shields, the end is bittersweet. She has seen her bracelets in Washington, D.C. and in Virginia Beach, she said in an interview Tuesday afternoon.

“I feel like we did quality work and I always feel good about that,” she said. “I feel like I did my best to do it right.”
