HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Cinco de Mayo, commonly mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, is a holiday to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla.
According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica, in the mid-20th century, the holiday grew in popularity in the United States as a way of encouraging Mexican immigrants to take pride in their Mexican heritage.
The Historic Triangle will also be celebrating, and here are some of the places hosting events, music, specials, and cuisine:
The Busch Gardens Food & Wine Festival continues this weekend by celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a fiesta party zone as the wild reserve turns festive with music, cuisine and cocktails. Sip and savor traditional flavors as part of the Food & Wine Festival at the Mexico and Margarita locations.
Billsburg Brewery is celebrating all-day May 5 with a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Billsburg will be releasing Juan’s Nightstand, a Mexican Cerveza beer and pouring a Sombrero Margarita. All draft beers will be $1 off. Live music, trivia and a DJ will close out the evening. Three food trucks will be available.
Frothy Moon Brewhouse will have beer specials all day, live music from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. with CK Kelce and Nomad’s Food Truck will be on-site with a special menu.
The Corner Pocket will also have live music starting at 7 p.m. as well as a variety of drink and food specials.
For those interested in food to celebrate, a variety of local restaurants specializing in Mexican cuisine will be open for people to come and enjoy the festivities:

Two Drummers Smokehouse will also feature a Tex-Mex menu accompanied by live music from Bad Habit to celebrate.
County Grill & Smokehouse will be joining the celebration with tacos and tequila all day. Starting at 10 p.m., guests will also be able to enjoy karaoke.
