JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County (JCC) is collaborating with Williamsburg Botanical Garden and the JCC Clean County Commission to host an event on April 24 in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day. The tree-planting ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Williamsburg Botanical Garden located inside Freedom Park at 5537 Centerville Road. The rain date is Sunday, April 25. According to Executive Order 72, 100 people are currently allowed to gather for an outdoor event. The event will require masks and practice social distancing.
The Williamsburg Botanical Garden is open to the public every day of the year from 7 a.m. until dusk and is always free to visit. The April 24 event will also kick off the Garden’s “Plants with a Purpose” Honor Box fundraising plant sale, which focuses on plants that support pollinators and wildlife. Proceeds from the sale, along with donations, will allow the Garden to continue its mission of showcasing sustainable landscaping practices and providing information and inspiration to home gardeners.
The James City County Clean County Commission, established in 1979, is a coalition of local volunteers appointed by the Board of Supervisors. They are dedicated to promoting recycling, litter control, environmental education and beautification projects.
