JAMES CITY COUNTY — On Wednesday, March 24 at approximately 7:06 a.m., the Division Five Communications Center received several distress calls that a vehicle was in the median of Interstate 64, eastbound at mile marker 227.
Upon the arrival at the scene, state police discovered that the driver of a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander ran off the roadway and into the wooded median, striking a tree. The driver was later identified as Courtney Dixon.
Dixon was entrapped within the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries. Med flight was called to the scene but was unable to respond due to weather condition. Dixon was transported by ground to the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond.
Sergeant Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police said that Dixon remains in critical condition and that he will undergo surgery for his injuries. She also said that Dixon could face charges but was not at liberty to say what those charges may be.
