Government offices, parks closed for holidays in Greater Williamsburg

Starting Friday, government offices and services in Williamsburg, James City County and York County will start to shut down in observance of Christmas and New Year’s.

Before you bring your recycling to the curb or head to a local park, check this handy list.

By Jan. 3, everything should return to normal.

James City County

County offices will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1.

The James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center will be closed Dec. 24-25, open Dec. 31 until 6 p.m., and closed Jan. 1.

The Convenience Centers and Garbage Transfer Station will be open Dec. 24 until noon, and be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Curbside recycling will be shifted back one day for weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Monday pickup will move to Tuesday, Tuesday pickup will move to Wednesday, etc.

James City County libraries will close Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.

The Williamsburg-James City County courthouse will close Dec. 22, as well as Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2.

All of the county parks are open. However, some parks have stores or offices that will be closed. Visit the James City County website for more information.

Williamsburg

City offices at 401 Lafayette Street will be closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1

Waller Mill Park will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1.

The Quarterpath Recreation Center will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 and will reopen for normal hours on Wednesday, Dec. 27. The center will also be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

The Williamsburg-James City County Courthouse will be closed Dec. 22, Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2.

Both branches of the Williamsburg Regional Library will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

Trash collection will be delayed one day for the week of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

  • Regularly scheduled Monday, December 25 – will be Tuesday, December 26
  • Regularly scheduled Tuesday, December 26 – will be Wednesday, December 27
  • Regularly scheduled Monday, January 1 – will be Tuesday, January 2
  • Regularly scheduled Tuesday, January 2 – will be Wednesday, January 3
  • There will be no leaf collection Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

York County

York County public libraries will be closed Dec. 22-25 and Dec. 29-Jan. 1.

The York County Courthouse will be closed Dec. 22 through Dec. 26, as well as Jan. 1 and 2.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension will be closed Dec. 22-26 and Dec. 29-Jan. 1.

All York County Waste Management operations will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Curbside garbage and recycling collections will move one day for both weeks, with collections normally scheduled for Monday being collected on Tuesday. The weeks will finish with Friday’s collections being collected on Saturday.
