Update 11:16 a.m.
VIRGINIA BEACH—Police arrested a Virginia Beach man Friday evening, citing a possible connection to an attempted assault on a teacher at Tidewater Community College.
Officers arrested Jarod Jamale Jones, 38, around 10 p.m. after he led them on a car chase from the intersection of Holland Road and Dam Neck Road to Oceana Boulevard, Virginia Beach Police say.
According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, officers attempted to pull Jones over after they spotted a vehicle that fit the description of a car connected to the attempted assault on June 28 on TCC’s Virginia Beach campus.
During that incident, a man pointed a gun at a female teacher in the bathroom and tried to assault her, police said at the time. When the women screamed, the man fled the scene.
Jones attended classes at TCC from the summer of 2014 through the spring of this year, TCC said in a statement released Saturday.
“In accordance with the college’s student affairs policies, Mr. Jones is no longer a student at TCC,” the statement said.
On Friday evening, Police took Jones into custody after he crashed the car at 1301 Oceana Blvd. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Jones faces charges including brandishing a firearm, abduction, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and revocation of a suspended sentence.
There are other charges pending as the case remains under investigation, police say.
