Biker hospitalized after jump attempt in Freedom Park

A 22-year-old biker was hospitalized after he went over the handlebars of his bike at a popular jump at Freedom Park Sunday.

According to a county news release, firefighters and medics had to rescue the man from the “remote” site on foot. 

The rescue operation took over 30 minutes to get from the woods to LifeEvac 3 medical helicopter, which was waiting nearby. 

Firefighters and medics carried the injured cyclist out by a basket stretcher, using a utility four-wheel drive vehicle, the release stated. 

The man was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond with multiple injuries. He was reported in stable condition, the release stated.
