Once the site of a Williamsburg staple, the frozen dessert franchise Skippy’s SnoBalls has officially opened in the former home of Queen Anne Dari-Snak.
Co-owner Skip Harrison said he discovered the old Queen Anne building when he was on a lunch break from his job as a supply officer with the United States Navy. He knew immediately the location was special.
He and his wife Sarah decided to open a second SnoBalls location — their first is in Virginia Beach — to fill the void Queen Anne left when the 60-year-old burger joint closed last June.
While the old Queen Anne property underwent a facelift – including cornhole boards and a giant Jenga for play – the community spirit of the place isn’t going to change, Skip Harrison said.
“The landlord really wanted to make sure the building stayed a community hangout spot,” he told WYDaily after signing a lease on the property last August.
“People like a place where they can just be,” Sarah Harrison added.
According to a Skippy’s Facebook post, the shaved ice chain opened its newest location at 7127 Merrimac Trail on March 1.
The shop serves up Louisiana-style shaved ice with over 100 flavors, including classics like cherry and green apple as well as more unique flavors such as dill pickle and red velvet cake.
Skippy’s SnoBalls is open daily and offers specials Monday through Thursday. For more information, visit Skippy’s SnoBalls online or on Facebook.
