A couple eluded police Sunday after they were caught having intercourse in a camping hammock near the Yorktown Beach, police say.

According to Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, a man called police Sunday afternoon while visiting the beach with his children and spotted what appeared to be the “naked rear end of a person” followed by a “great deal of movement.”

York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the scene, near the 400-block of Water Street, around 4 p.m.

The complainant told police the couple was in a green camping hammock near the National Park Service picnic area, before the beach and in a grassy area.

By the times cops arrived, the pair had left the scene.

If the public has information about the incident, they are asked to call the crime line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP, or the Facebook Tip Line, at 757-890-4999.
