The Commonwealth is currently under a public health emergency because of a statewide opioid addiction crisis, and Virginia Beach authorities plan to educate the community about it this year.
The free statewide opioid overdose and naloxone education program will be held Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Virginia Beach EMS administration office, 477 Viking Drive, Suite 130. People interested in participating can call 757-385-0800 to register.
The program will help participants understand what opioids are, how overdoses happen, what overdose risk factors are and how to react to an overdose with the help of the overdose reversal drug naloxone, according to its website.
Tuesday’s program is the first of many to be held in Virginia Beach. Others are scheduled for Feb. 21, March 21, April 18, May 16, June 20 and July 18.
