Dora Lee McLawhorn, 81, loved cooking for her family

Dora Lee McLawhorn, 81, passed away in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017. She was born in North Carolina to the late George and Ida Mae Merritt.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bob McLawhorn; son, Timothy Charles McLawhorn; and siblings, James Merritt and Nita Overton.

Dora was a compassionate and loving soul who ran, “Dora’s Adult Care Home.” When she wasn’t caring for others, she loved cooking for her family, gardening, shopping and spending time with her church family at Kempsville Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Rahn (Deborah) McLawhorn; sister, Vida Dorn (Ken); grandchildren, Janet Hill, and fiancée, Adam Eisenberg, Rahn Jr. (Lorie) and Darrell; great-grandchildren, Alex Hill, Cole McLawhorn and Kara Longmore; along with many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Kempsville Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
